How am I Driving?

Alex and I ventured to DC's RFK Stadium for the annual "Touch a Truck" day. Alex got to touch and sit in every DC gov't vehicle possible, from a police helicopter to fire trucks to disaster relief vehicles to garbage trucks. Excellent father/son outing!

Fresh Mountain Air

We spent a relaxing Memorial Day weekend at Wintergreen, a mountain resort about three hours away outside Charlottesville, VA. It was great to get outside and enjoy the cool and clean mountain air. Alex continues his rapid growth from baby to little boy. He loved playing in the streams, digging in the mud, and getting dirty in every sort of way. Of course, playing in the bath and getting clean are part of the fun.

Otherwise, it has been a busy time. Last week we found out that baby #2 is going to be another boy. He's also growing rapidly inside Melissa's belly!

Agua, anyone?

Alex's new favorite game is "agua." He brings a container to us -- cup, bowl, baking pan, you name it -- and requests "Agua?" We give him a small amount and he happily passes it back and forth from one container to another. Here is a picture of one special day when he got direct access to the kitchen tap.

It is fun to watch Alex move seemlessly from Spanish to English. "Agua" is his only Spanish word -- "ball", "moon" and "noooooooo" are favorite English ones. He understands and responds to requests in both languages. And he clearly prefers our nanny's latino food over plain-jane American.

Valentine's Day in Tulsa

Many thanks to Mom for hosting us over Valentine's Day. She even took Alex for two days so that Bill and I could attend Marni Leftkowitz's wedding as carefree adults. We had a great time, and so did Alex! Here's a quick video on his visit to Dee Dee's house.

Inauguration Day

All of Washington is buzzing with inauguration fever. We joined the crowds on the Mall to see President Obama sworn in. Alex stayed home, but he was just as festive playing with his flags. Indeed, he is probably the most enthusiastic among this family: when he said his first sentence earlier this week ("I love you,") he said it to our flag, not Mommy or Daddy!
